Overview: A filling or cavity are terms used to describe the procedure by which a dentist repairs and restores the surface of a tooth that has been damaged by decay, fracture, or wear.
Patient experience: Following a thorough exam to diagnose the necessary treatment, the dentist will begin the procedure. Based upon patient preferences, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and local anesthetic will be administered to make the procedure painless and comfortable. The affected region of tooth is cleansed of the decayed or damaged regions with hand instruments. Then, the restoration will be placed into the affected region to restore the tooth to its original function.
